Law enforcement guidelines

Guidelines for law enforcement and government entities seeking information or records from Taawn. These guidelines do not create any legal obligation on Taawn and we reserve the right to modify them.

Stored user information

We store and maintain user information as described in our Privacy Policy. We do not track a user's location when they are not using Taawn. We cannot guarantee that the information described will be available for any given user or time period. Data we produce may be in raw form (e.g. GPX or similar) and may require specific software to interpret.

User consent

If an individual consents to sharing their data with law enforcement, we recommend that the requesting agency obtain the data directly from that individual. Users can download their own data through our service where we provide that feature.

Legal process

We respond only to valid legal process properly served on us in accordance with applicable law. We do not produce user data in response to preservation requests alone; a valid court order or other lawful request is required for production. Non-local law enforcement may need to work through appropriate mechanisms (e.g. mutual legal assistance treaties).

How to submit a request

Please submit requests in writing to the contact address or email provided on our Contact or Imprint page, with sufficient identification of the user and the records sought. Overly broad or vague requests may be delayed or denied.

User notification

Our policy is to notify users when we receive requests for their data, unless we are legally prohibited from doing so or believe that notice would create a risk of harm or would not reach the account holder.

Emergency requests

For situations involving imminent serious bodily injury, please contact your local law enforcement first. We may respond to emergency requests from law enforcement on a case-by-case basis where permitted by law.

Testimony

We do not provide in-person or expert witness testimony. We may provide a business record certification with productions where appropriate.
